Its safe to say that as an artist, and all round amazing person we love our friend Kimmy Hogan. We have been proud stockists of her stunning floral prints for over 4 years, constantly inspiring us, we love every new release of works as much as the last.
We are super chuffed she chose to style our Koto Chest of Drawers in her beautiful and effortless bedroom, looking picture perfect with her Flowerbed I Print and Paper Daisies IV Print.
We picked Kimmy's brain for some insight into her creative journey and personal style, including why she chose Koto for her home.
Kimmy! We love your work so much, and it really resonates with our customer, can you tell us a little more about the person behind the art and what inspires you?
Oh thank you! I’m a busy mum of three little boys and work from my home studio. I adore florals and nature and can see an artwork in almost every flower I set eyes on. I really enjoy the process of illustrating and creating artworks with colours that I’m really loving at the time. I feel super lucky to do what I do!
We get the feeling you love interiors as much as we do, how would you describe your home and your style?
Interiors has been a big love of mine for as long as I can remember. We live in a little weatherboard home that is plain and simple that has big windows and lots of character. I love a relaxed vibe with lots of neutral earthy tones and materials with pops of colour here and there. Natural light is really important to me so we have the blinds up and curtains open whenever possible, it just changes the feel of the whole space. I really love decorating with quality furniture pieces so I buy for longevity, but above all else has to work and be practical for a busy little family of five.
From an artist point of view, what advice would you have for someone wanting to invest in a piece of art and how to choose one for their space?
It has to be from the heart. Above all else! If you love it, and you connect with it, then it’s the right piece for you. Don’t get too caught up with thinking you need to find an artwork with a particular tone because you have a cushion that colour – or anything like that – the art should always be the hero of the room then you can always finesse some décor pieces to suit. I also suggest to go big with artwork as I see many people put artworks that are too small on their walls.
So, tell us why you chose the product you did and what you love about it now you have it in your home...
The piece I chose was the gorgeous ‘Koto’ set of 6 drawers. I have been waiting for a long time to upgrade our drawers in our bedroom and I was super excited to find this piece at Life Interiors. The timber is the perfect colour and adds warmth to our space, and the little round legs and drawer knobs made it extra cute and special. It has really transformed our space and I now love seeing it when I walk into my bedroom.
We wanted the full Kimmy & Koto experience, so asked her to let us know what goodies from our range she would pair with her new drawers. The result; natural tones and bohemian leanings with some great picks from some fellow Australian designers Bonnie & Neil, Middle of Nowhere and Sarah Ellison.
